Gig Rowers on Parchment

Hello

It's been a long time since I posted!

I created this piece of work by using parts of different Groovi Plates, trying to line them up and adding a few freehand lines - scary!  The main image is from combining Groovi Rowers plate and Groovi Fisherman Round.  The corner details are from two Groovi border plates, Half Tone (circles) used by choosing the different sizes in a mixed way and the Groovi Border Plate Ocean Swirls.  I coloured the back with oil pastels and dorso oil, I've not done this before, so it was a learning experience.

When mounting on the card, I wanted to show the corners clearly, so I needed a dark card. Also, I wanted to display the coloured area clearly too without it being drowned out by the dark card.  Then I remembered seeing somewhere about part mounting onto a different coloured card.  So I used white card cut in a circle, sized to fit within the coloured area.  I used Perga Glue to fix it place onto the parchment.  Then I glued this to the card.

Glow in the Dark Skull

Glow in the Dark Skull

The is an 8 x8" card.

The background is mostly Dusty Concord Distress Ink with Black Soot blended into the corners.  The Stampendous cog stamp is stamped using black Archival ink.

The skull stamp is inked and stamped onto black card and embossed with Stampendous Glow in the Dark embossing powder, it really makes the skull come out in an eerie way when the lights go down!!  A little bit of chalk was added to the black card too, creating a smoke effect, tho' it's lost in the photo.

The cracked glass effect is made from a piece of clear plastic packaging, embossed with a Tim Holtz Shattered embossing folder.  The plastic is coloured on the reverse with Ranger Alcohol Inks, to make the glass look "dirty" and enhanced the cracked effect.  A hole is cut into it so the skull can be seen more clearly.

The shattered glass is supported by a card frame distressed and coloured to look like old paint.  A moss effect is added to the corners using Flower Soft.  The large spider in the corner is a Spellbinders Spider Web die

Enjoy the Ride!
A variety of different dies were used to make this 8 x8" card.

The background to the scene is coloured using Distress Inks, applied with brushes.

The DoCrafts Build a Scene dies were cut from a DoCrafts green toned A4 paper set and layered.  Some of the flowers are coloured using pens.  The acorns and heart have gilding flakes applied to them.

The large tree was cut from white card using Spellbinders Just Swinging die, cut out from the die frame and coloured using Promarkers.

The Di-Versions Pedal Power die was cut out of white card and coloured with Promakers too.

The words "Enjoy the Ride!" stamp is part of a Darkroom Door rubber stamp set - Enjoy the Ride!!

Tattered Lace Flower Card Two

Tattered Lace Flower Card Two

The flower image was cut out from the same page of the 6 x 6" K&Co paper pad as Card One.  It was a bit more tricky to cut the image to fit the frame due to the open nature of this Tattered Lace frame.  A knife was better than scissors!

The added flowers were inked and cut out using a Sizzix make a flower die with Stickles glitter glue in the centres.

The Happy Birthday is a Tattered Lace die and is glittered with Stickles too.

The white base card is coloured with Distress Inks to tone into the background of the original K&Co image

90th Birthday Card

Dilema - what card to make for a 90th birthday?
I thought about what he enjoyed and came across these drawings which were freebies with a magazine.  They were perfect, with their old fashioned charm.  The picture on the top right even looked like the intended recipient!

So many lovely pictures, I want to use them all!  I cut them out and used a corner punch to round off the corners neatly and searched around for dies to layer the pictures onto.  In the end I used Spellbinders Labels One and Labels Eight dies.

I found a lovely dusky green card which complemented the pictures and layered them up. Then hunted around for numbers and found these simple shiny gold peel-offs and popped these onto another Label One.

I chose an A4 cream card and started to play with the overall layout, moving the Labels around.  The card definitely needed something extra - flowers.  He continues to enjoy growing flowers as well as a few veg, so I thought I needed a sort of masculine flower if you know what I mean.  Spellbinders Rose Carnation die set was just he right.  Rather than patterned paper, I chose white vellum and held the slightly curved petals together with a green pearl brad.  Hmmm, needs leaves.  Again. Spellbinders to the rescue, these time Foliage.  I chose the large leaflets, which I also embossed.  However, the leaves looked too green next to the white vellum!  So I toned them down with some white chalk, and used this on the other label shapes too, though not as much.

Next I stamped the border with Clarity Stamps, colouring in the blossom tree branch and the robin.  Just had to have that robin somewhere. Whenever I garden, a robin usually comes hopping around after insects and grubs so there are two, one on either side.

Finally the Labels where attached with foam pads for a bit of height, and I almost forgot, the greeting was attached to another Spellbinders die from Fancy Tags Two.
